The Horde of Counterwind
It’s about what a group can do when it overcomes the things that tear it apart. An epic community book.
Imagine a sanded, flat, infinite Earth. A ferocious wind keeps pounding the surface, from east to west non-stop, perpetually. Imagine that, in this town where the wind shatters against an immense cliff, an elite group of twenty or so children have been trained to courageously ride the gusting wind, for the rest of their lives, to its source, as yet unreached: the Far East.
This elite is the Horde of Counterwind, the 34th of its kind. The ones who will go the distance. There are seventeen of them, from the Golgoth tracer, the leader, to the crocs pulling the sleds at the back of the pack. All complementary. All linked. They are sky poachers, hunters, warriors or scouts, aeromasters or blacksmiths, gatherers and dowsers, troubadours or scribes. They cross their world standing up, on foot, in search of an Extreme-Upstream that flies past them like a crazy horizon. They face cyclones, unheard-of forms of wind, supernatural forces – and sometimes their own mental fragility.
They flee from the pursuit. They die. They are afraid. They move on. And with each ordeal, it’s their bonds that intensify or tear, it’s their block that compacts or dislocates, it’s their love or their selfishness that saves or kills them.
