Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse was born in Butare, Rwanda, in 1979. She arrived in France in 1994 after surviving the genocide against the Tutsi. Her short story collections Ejo and Lézardes (La Cheminante, 2015, 2017) have won the Prix François-Augiéras, the Prix de l’Estuaire, and the Prix du livre Ailleurs.
