Master's students in French from some fifteen universities in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland, as well as students from French secondary schools in the Nordic region, have begun their reading programme with a view to electing the second winner of the 2026 Nordic Goncourt Prize in April.
As last year, the Choix Goncourt jury will read and vote for one of the four books on the shortlist for the official Prix Goncourt (presented on this website), namely ‘La maison vide’ by Laurent Mauvignier, ‘La nuit au coeur’ by Nathacha Appanah, “Kolkhoze” by Emmanuel Carrère, and ‘Le bel obscur’ by Caroline Lamarche.
In 2025, the students chose Sandrine Collette's beautiful and thrilling novel, ‘Madelaine avant l'aube’.
The French Institutes in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, and the French Embassy in Iceland strongly encourage Nordic publishers to publish these books selected for the Nordic Goncourt Choice, in particular the Nordic winners, and will do their best to support and assist with any publications.
