Heritage: A Novel

The house on Rue Santo Domingo in Santiago, Chile, is hidden behind three lemon trees and has been home to several generations of the Lonsonier family. The family patriarch arrived from the slopes of the Jura mountains with a vine in one pocket and a few francs in the other, and settled there at the end of the 19th century. His son Lazare returns from the hell of the trenches to live in the house with his wife Thérèse and build the most beautiful aviary in the Andes. It is here that their daughter Margot, a pioneer in aviation, begins to dream of flying away, and where she reunites with a foreign soldier who appears from the past to bring the revolutionary Ilario Da into the world. Many years later, a bloody drama strikes the Lonsonier family. Caught in the eye of the storm, they all fly towards their destiny, carrying with them as their only legacy the mysterious legend of a missing uncle.
