Written like a thriller, this novel, on friendship, death, and social and psychological fragility, focuses on the illusions and the impossibility of grief in the light of our digital addictions.
Ariane, a young woman with social and personal difficulties, prefers staying home before she is invited by Sandrine, her best childhood friend, to her engagement party. To help her find her way and arrive safely, Sandrine shares her whereabouts with Ariane on her mobile phone. Guided by the red dot representing Sandrine on the GPS, Ariane makes her way to the party. The day after, Sandrine has disappeared. She no longer answers her phone and is nowhere to be found. Except on the GPS dot, which is still moving. And Ariane can't take her eyes off it, it makes her feel close to Sandrine, as if they shared a secret – until a burnt body is discovered on the shore of a lake the GPS dot shows Sandrine has visited. Is it her corpse? However, the dot is still on the move.
Who could be behind it? Ariane decides to investigate: is Sandrine's boyfriend in control of the GPS signals? Or possibly one of their old girlfriends, or maybe even Antoine, her companion? All the clues seem to lead to a dead-end. Ariane starts to mix up the real world and its digital format.
And then a new notification interrupts her: Sandrine wants to share her whereabouts with her once again. The GPS guides the narrator to the final meeting place.
